It's Wild & Crazy!

On Thursday May 7, 2009 Green Sting and the Residence Halls put on an event based on the old hit Nickelodeon show "Wild And Crazy Kids". After having changed the date a few times thanks to the weather, the Wild and Crazy Res Halls event was set for a sunny afternoon. There was a great turn out of about 250 residents from all 5 halls come out and participate. It was a great success and tons of fun!

5th Annual Sacramento State Track Classic

Over the weekend the 5th Annual Sac State Track Classic brought hundreds of high school athletes together to compete in our very own Hornet Stadium. These kids were so talented; bursting with energy and life. It was awesome to be amongst them and their enthusiasm!

Protest Against 10% Tuition Increase

Walking between classes today I saw this writing on the doors to Calaveras Hall.
Due to budget cuts there is a proposed 10% increase for tuition. This bill will be proposed at the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting. To protest this bill a march at the Capitol is scheduled for March 16.

Campus Buildings Blending With Nature

Walking around campus a couple of the fronts of the buildings caught my eye. I was drawn to the mirroring of the building and it's surroundings. Passing by Brighton Hall the bright golden yellowish tree behind it accented the bright wall the buildings name was on. The Biology building was so crisp and clean with the metal lettering, flat roof, and finger-like branches from the tree out front. I was drawn to the mirroring of the building and it's surroundings.

San Francisco Comedy Competition

Claire Padgett, the State Hornet photo editor, took her camera to the San Francisco Comedy Competition for a story in the State Hornet. She came back with some great images, including this capture of the host Mike Winfield.

Salsa Loca dance club on campus

I went to the Salsa Loca club on campus to take some photos. They meet every Wednesday in the Union at 7:30 p.m. and give free lessons to anyone who attends. It looked like everyone had a great time and plenty of them were attending for the first time and even came alone.

Junior mechanical engineering major Blanca Ruelas dances with her friend Miguel Rojas. This first photo was shot in available light in a dark room. I saw a focused beam of light coming down from the ceiling and waited for this moment.

Senior civil engineering major Clark Churchill and his friend, junior English major Emily Jo Seminoff show off some fantastic moves. They were very good dancers and got a lot of looks from people attending. When it was time to switch partners, they often stuck together. These folks were photographed using a flash held away from the camera.

Chickens on campus or "cock of the walk"

I saw some of the famous CSUS chickens outside of Mendocino Hall. There has been some controversy about their dwindling numbers over the years, starting in 2004. That's Sequoia Hall in the background.
